Dear All,

We have discussed the problems of memory trace theories more than once, as well as the closely related problems of representationalism and information processing theories. The Norwegian psychologist Steinar Svoren decided to become a philosopher as well, and wrote a great dissertation on the fallacies of memory trace theories. Steinar is a good friend; he allowed me to forward his text. You can find it in the library as well as in the e-mail sent to you on the 12th of January 2026.

The matters at hand are not easy to grasp, partly because we are so used to thinking in terms of traces and representations. However, studying the issues is, I feel, most rewarding. Steinar is open to receiving comments and responding to questions you may have. We can use part of the time of 2026 kernel group meeting to discuss the thesis and its implications.
